Antique (1890s) Crazy Quilt - Signed J.W.H.
Highly Detailed. Popular style of American textile art that peaked in the late 19th century. Incorporates rich, heavy materials like velvet, silk and satin. Makers heavily decorated the edges of each patch using intricate embroidery. Quilters frequently added painted or embroidered motifs, such as the horse and rider, stars, and floral arrangements visible on this example.
