Antique (1840s) Geometric Double Weave Coverlet With Fringe.
Early American Jacquard coverlet, a type of decorative heavy bed covering Handwoven during the 19th century. Traditionally constructed on narrow, four-harness or jacquard looms. Because the looms were not wide enough to cover an entire bed, the weaver could create long, narrow panels. These separate panels were Ethel cut and hand-sewn together down the center to achieve the final width.
There is some loss and staining throughout. Center Seam. Fringe along 3 sides - some loss. Beautiful floral + geometric edging on the one side. Structurally Sound. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Reversible. No Holes. Center structural seam visible running vertically down the middle of the fabric. Double-woven using a combination of Cotton and wool. Features a complex geometric block or tile design, framed with the edges of fringe.
