Antique (1880s) Early American Overshot Coverlet.
Summer + Winter // Overshot Weave Technique. Patterns are created on thick, colored wool pattern weft threads floating over a fine, plain-woven cream cotton or linen foundation background. Structure causes the distinct, slightly raised texture where the colored blocks skip across the structural grid. Vertical line running straight down the middle is a hand-stitched center seam, which firmly dates the weaving method.
Victorian Era Textile. Excellent Antique Condition. Age appropriate distress + discoloration. Center Seam. Structurally Sound. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Antique wool overshot center seam Pa coverlet. Dark green, red, and white. No Fringe. Historical early American home looms were narrow, weavers had to create two matching lengths of fabric and stitch them together to form a full-sized bed coverlet.
Measurements : 90" x 65"
