Antique (1900) Log Cabin Quilt Top - Barn Raising Variation.
Antique (1900) Log Cabin Quilt Top - Barn Raising Variation.
Iconic. Each individual square is a traditional Log Cabin block. This pattern is constructed by sewing strips - logs - around a central starting patch. Traditionally, half of the strips in each block are cut from light fabrics and the other half from dark fabrics, splitting the block diagonally. Barn Raising arrangement is achieved by rotating these blocks around a central point. Aligning the matching light and dark diagonals next to each other, the contrasting bands radiate outward.
Unfinished quilt top. Edges Are Rough. Measurements of the maroon material on the sides are not even. Visually Appealing. Stains and discoloration throughout. Tears to edges and one strip has come unstitched on the quilt. Machine Stitched. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Striking visual effect of a large, nested diamond pattern concentric to the center. Exact center of this layout, the four innermost blocks meet to form a bold, dark cross shape.
Measurements : 106" x 76"
