Antique (1910s) Redwork Embroidery Quilt Top.
Botanical + insect Motifs are rendered using a classic, tight outline or stem stitch. This gives the drawings their clean, continuous ink-like look. Grid lines dividing the muslin squares are joined together with a decorative feather stitch // briar stitch.
There is staining + discoloration throughout. There are small holes present throughout the textile. Base fabric is a lightweight, tightly woven natural cotton muslin or sheeting. Slight variances in the shapes confirm these were entirely embroidered by hand rather than by machine. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania.
Measurements : 77” x 74”
