Antique (1920s) Delectable Mountains Quilt Top.
Traditional quilt block layout. This pattern is constructed using a series of stepped, saw-tooth style triangles. When multiple blocks are sewn side-by-side in diagonal strips, they create a dramatic “mountain” or jagged wave effect. Delectable Mountains name originates from John Bunyan’s 1678 book The Pilgrim’s Progress.
There is staining + discoloration present. Two blocks the middle seam has come undone. Striking use of two highly contrasting colors - turkey red and unbleached cotton white - is an iconic, collectible hallmark of late 19th and early 20th-century American textiles. Found in as-is condition in upstate New York.
Measurements : 71” x 73”
