Antique (1920s) Folky, Hand-Hooked Running Horse Rug.
Originally crafted in Pennsylvania. Textile features a central Brown horse running against a multi-toned Blue background, framed by four corner horseshoe motifs and a striking multi-colored bordered accent. Antique piece of American folk art. Color Variance. Subtle abrash - color variations - within the Blue background and the horse’s body. This happens when different batches of dyed fabric or wool are utilized, giving antique pieces their characteristic depth.
One small area of loss - seen on the back. Burlap foundation that shows age appropriate fraying + distress to edges and borders. Structurally Sound. Found in as-is condition in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Primitive Folk Art rug. Gauge is relatively tight, showing a dense accumulation of loops that creates the pictorial texture. Minimal fraying or significant loop loss on the face, though slight surface wear and fading consistent with age are visible.
