Art Deco. Capturing a Young woman with a classic “flapper” Bob haircut. 1920s Jazz Age / Art Deco Portraiture. Watercolor on textured paper. Features a classic short, stylized Bob hairstyle, defined eyebrows, a delicate Pendant necklace, and an off-the-shoulder neckline typical of early 20th century portrait style.
Paper shows significant foxing + distress. Tearing present particularly around the edges and by the hair at the top of the portrait. Foxing starts at eye level and working up to the top of the paper. About 1/8 of the bottom of the paper shows foxing. Handwritten note on bottom left loosely reads : Dear Barbara, if you like this it should be mattered where … illegible) (Matted in grey) and framed in glass. It was done in wash (think watercolor).” I believe that the signature reads Gloria Shutz.
