Antique Volume. Famous historical fiction novel written by English author Charles Kingsley and originally published in 1853. Bound in a classic late-19th century half-leather. Story takes place in 5th-century Alexandria, Egypt. Presents a heavily fictionalized account of the life, philosophy, and brutal demise of the famous Pagan mathematician and philosopher, Hypatia of Alexandria. Kingsley used the historical conflict between early Christians, Jews, and Pagans to reflect and critique the religious tensions of his own Victorian era.
