Vintage (1930s) Depression Era Handmade Pinwheel Quilt
Featuring pastel lavender or lilac pinwheel blocks set against a solid pink background. Alternating orientation of the triangles gives the blocks their classic spinning visual effect. Geometric Pattern. Traditional piercing, hand-stitched and hand quilted. Classic Style. Windmill // Whirlwind Pattern. Each major block consists of a nested visual design - a smaller inner pinwheel surrounded by alternating larger triangles that form a secondary, interlocking outer wheel effect.
Heavy oxidation and staining present. No Tears. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Heavy, crinkled texture reveals beautiful, aged hand-quilting that follows diagonal lines across the blocks, which is characteristic of traditional utility quilts. Aging spots and textile discoloration are visible near the seams and overall, giving the piece its unique vintage character and authentic appeal. Extensive yellow and brown oxidation stains across the solid fabric.
