Vintage (1930s) Girl Scout Haversack // Backpack - Barbara Gardner.
Faint emblem at the bottom center of the flap is the traditional three-leaf Girl Scout Trefoil insignia. These heavy canvas field packs were standard outdoor gear for Girl Scouts during the mid-20th century - spanning roughly from the 1930s to the 1950s - before the organization switched over to green fabrics and nylon materials. Mid Century Canvas Scouting Gear. Vintage Canvas. Barbara Gardner stenciled on the bag, twice.
No holes // tears. Staining + discoloration throughout. Structurally Sound. Shoulders traps convert the bag from a haversack - shoulder bag - into a backpack. Configuration uses detachable metal snap hooks linked to D-rings at the top, which route down through the lower loops to form backpack straps. Central vertical strap and D-ring on the back panel allowed Scouts to adjust how high or tight the bag sat on their back or attach it to an external frame or bicycle rack.
