Stunning Textile. Nostalgic variation of the classic "Sunbonnet Sue" style. Pattern features a recurring block design of an elegant lady viewed from behind, wearing a full, sweeping dress and a wide-brimmed bonnet while strolling with an open parasol. Patterns featuring these parasol-toting figures were exceptionally popular in American quilting during the 1930s Depression Era. Quilt relies heavily on a "scrappy" block style, allowing the quilter to construct individual dresses, bonnets, and umbrellas out of contrasting fabric remnants, plaid textiles, and small floral prints.
Depression Era Quilt. Discoloration + staining throughout. No rips or tears. Structurally Sound. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Also widely known by other traditional names, including "Southern Belle", "Umbrella Girl", "Crinoline Ladies," or "Colonial Lady". Each figure's dress and umbrella panels are carefully appliqued onto a crisp square background. Meticulous, time-honored craftsmanship went into creating this Parasol Lady Quilt.
