Vintage (1930s) Sunbonnet Sue Quilt.

Beautiful Textile. Classic. One of the most recognizable and beloved traditional American applique patterns. Originating as a popular design in the early 20th century, Sunbonnet Sue features a recurring figure of a young girl wearing a large bonnet that completely obscures her face. Classic Aesthetic. Hand-Stitched Historical Textile. Exceptional hand-quilting workmanship. Distinct grid or crosshatch pattern filling in the backing.

Discoloration throughout - notably darkened edges and along fold lines. No rips or tears. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. This variation relies on an organized layout including a central grid panel of 16 blocks surrounded by an inner border frame, with an additional wide outer border featuring more figures facing outward. Wavy, sweeping cable lines stitched along the wide top and bottom borders.
