Features alternate plain and embroidered white fabric blocks separated by vibrant blue framing strips - sashing. Follows a classic grid block design framed by an inner blue border and an expansive white outer border. Overall Sam // Bill Motif. Bottom-right square features the iconic “Overall Sam” - Overall Bill or Sunbonnet Sam - character. Traditionally depicted wearing denim overalls, a large straw hat that hides his face, and work shoes.
One tear to a corner o fa block. Some light staining or oxidation throughout. Blocks alternate hand stitching and marker drawn images. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Cherished heirloom crafted for children’s bedrooms during the mid-20th century. Edges show some fraying. Structurally Sound. Overall Sam was popularized by Aunt Martha’s Hot Iron Transfer Patterns and Vogart during the 1930s and 1950s.
