Vintage (1950s) Blank Pepperell Fabrics Zip-Up Jersey
Baseball Jersey. Features a classic v-neck collar with contrast piping running down the center front zipper placket. Highly collectible piece of mid-century athletic wear. Pepperell Manufacturing Company was a famous American textile mill known for producing exceptionally durable, heavyweight cotton utility cloths, chambray, and their signature brushed cotton “chamois” flannel. Pepperell milled the raw fabric, which was then supplied to Major athletic outfitters of the 1940s and 1950s - such as Empire Athletics or Frank J. McKenna - to sew Into finished, high-grade baseball uniforms.
The Pepperell tag is the only one inside. Discoloration and staining present, notably around the neck - see photographs. Some light staining on the back. No holes or tears. Given the zipper-front style and the classic double-stripe soutache piping, this jersey dates from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. Likely served as a base “blank” for a high school, semi-pro, or local industrial league team. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Zipper in working condition and reads “ESKO”
