Beautiful. Featuring a variety of charming nursery, animal, and floral designs arranged in a grid pattern. Squares feature delicate, colorful hand embroidery - mostly outline or stem stitches - depicting classic mid-century themes like animals : elephants, bunnies, horses, flowers, and nostalgic nursery-style characters like Sunbonnet Sue or colonial children. This type of quilt was incredibly popular from the 1930s through 1960s, often sold as stamped embroidery kits by companies like Jack Dempsey Needle Art or Bucilla, which makers would embroider and quilt at home.
There is discoloration + staining throughout. No rips or tears. Pencil Marks Visible. Found in as-is condition in Pennsylvania. Features an overall diamond background grid stitch behind the embroidery blocks, framed by intricate wave or clamshell patterns along the scalloped borders. Incredible detail in the hand-embroidery and precision diamond quilting. Distinct patterns popular in mid-century mail-order and iron-on transfer kits : nursery + storybook characters, animals, florals + baskets and cross-stitch geometric medallions.
