Vintage (1950's) Hand-Painted and Carved Wooden Lobster or Fishing Buoy Float

$120.00

Vintage (1950’s) Hand-Painted and Carved Wooden Lobster or Fishing Buoy Float.

Fishermen traditionally painted and marked these buoys in distinctive colors and patterns to identify their traps at Sea. The hook or eyelet at the top would have attached it to a rope and trap line. The wear, cracks, and faded paint from heavy use.

The red stripe over yellow is a typical tyke of hand-painted identification marking, and the carved/stamped letters “M B 3 S” would be a fisherman’s personal code or license number.

It’s solid wood, hand-turned, with obvious cracking from long-term weather exposure. The simple band of red over yellow, done by hand.

Measures : 12 × 4.5”
